BOOK GIVEAWAY: Authentic Cuban Cuisine by Martha Abreu Cortina

Martha Abreu Cortina learned to cook traditional Cuban fare the old fashioned way: Watching her mother prepare meals for the family.

A native of Cuba and current Florida resident and public school teacher for 25 years, Cortina put together family recipes in "Authentic Cuban Cuisine," a 2011 hardcover cookbook (Pelican Publishing, $25, hardcover, 288 pp. with 150 color photos).

Recipes include traditional dishes such as arroz con pollo (chicken with rice), ropa vieja (shredded beef), poliche (pot roast), fried plantains and, of course, flan.

The cookbook, "created for home cooks by a home cook," is the "perfect guide for anyone interested in learning how to cook traditional Cuban cuisine," according to a press release from Pelican.

Pelican Publishing was nice enough to send me a copy of the book, which I would like to pass along to a reader who posts a comment on this blog. I will select a winner at random from the comments posted as of tomorrow morning (June 7), and be in touch to get a mailing address.

Is it too late to enter for this giveaway since no one has commented? I love making/eating Cuban food, and would love to win this one. :-) Thanks!
